Telephony and Internet

In 2017 users of Andorra Telecom benefited from the change of optical fibre, which not only resulted in an 80% reduction in incidents but also led to a significant increase in the speed of Internet access (from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps) and an average speed of 285 Mbps. The project, which was rated with a score of 8 out of 10 in the satisfaction surveys, entailed the replacement of the fibre optic boxes of all the households and companies in the country.

In addition, during the above change, Andorra Telecom offered its customers new routers, with remote management of the device included in the offer, to improve incident resolution. The volume of Internet data also increased to 500GB for residential customers and an unlimited amount for companies.

The Triple Play package (fixed telephony + Internet access + IP television) remained the most popular option among our private customers (33%). The number of Internet subscriptions with fibre optic increased by 6% in 2017.

Televisió IP Movistar+

In 2017 the Movistar Familiar package was extended to include the eSports, Movistar Series Xtra, GolTV, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 channels. Specific thematic channels such as Movistar Star Wars, James Bond, Princesses and Disney Pixar were activated. The penetration of IP television with respect to the total number of customers with optical fibre stood at 44.5%, with a total of 13,912 customers.

As for the Movistar+ app on the different devices, 1,233 new users were captured in 2017, bringing the total to 4,611 users, a figure representing 39% penetration of customers with the Movistar+ offer.

Telefonia mòbil

Providing users with connectivity from abroad and increasing the data and options of each profile were the priorities of mobile telephony in 2017.

Our efforts centred on the general changes in the mobile telephony offer. The volume of data and call minutes multiplied by an average of four in all the plans, allowing users greater use of mobile Internet. In addition, we created specific new plans to incorporate roaming, permitting data use without any additional cost in Spain, France and Portugal, our users’ three main destinations. These countries account for 95% of the annual traffic outside Andorra.

In the same vein, in July we extended the number of countries with daily roaming plans, providing 100 Mbps for 1.50 euros or the very competitive rate of 0.05 euros/MB. In addition to covering almost the whole of Europe, we included the United States to facilitate the use of mobiles abroad.

The mobile telephony proposal which is most subscribed to is the 15 Plan (36% of customers), which provides moderate use of voice, data and SMS communications at a reasonable price. Mobiland contract subscriptions increased by 7.3% with respect to the previous year.

As for pre-paid mobile telephony, known as Mobiland Clic, the number of users accounts for 23% of the total number of mobile phone subscriptions.
